Why Memorize Effective Compound Interest Rates?
In the SSC CGL exam, particularly in Tier 2, Compound Interest questions are designed to be highly calculative. Using the traditional formula or drawing complex ratio trees for 3 or 4 years takes significantly longer and increases the chance of arithmetic errors.
The Direct Multiplication Method
Top rankers memorize the Effective Compound Interest Rate for standard percentages (like 5%, 8%, 10%) up to 4 years. For example, the effective CI for 5% over 3 years is exactly 15.7625%.
- Speed: If the principal is Rs. 10,000, you simply calculate $10000 \times 15.7625\%$ to get the exact interest instantly.
- Accuracy: TCS is notorious for asking answers accurate to two decimal places. By memorizing up to four decimal places, you eliminate rounding errors early in the calculation.
